Ragged Point California, a coast landmark ocean view tourist spot situated 15 miles north of Hearst Castle® San Simeon (25 miles north of Cambria or 80 miles south of Carmel) on Pacific Coast Highway 1. The location of the spectacular Ragged Point Inn Ocean View Resort, an "all inclusive" cliff top tourist resort and vacation destination on the rugged Pacific Coast Highway 1.
Enjoy the breathtaking views at Ragged Point Calif, 15 miles north of Hearst Castle®, San Simeon California!
Now is a wonderful time to visit Hearst Castle® and after your tour you should take the short trip up the Scenic Pacific Coast Highway to Ragged Point Inn and have a European style espresso with a delicious freshly made gourmet desert at the indoor coffee bar; or lunch at one of Ragged Point Resorts eating establishments which all now
feature Hearst Ranch Beef, local free range grass-fed delicious natural beef.
Late fall and winter are my favorite times to vacation on the California Central Coast. The the summer fogs disappear and the weather is the best, the traffic is light, the crowds are gone leaving the locals and wildlife to enjoy the peaceful wonders of the beautiful coast. The heaviest migration of the grey whales heading south to Mexico to breed and birth happens during December through February, you can often view them spouting and even sometimes breaching from the coast or take an ocean whale watching excursion with Virg’s Landing of Morro Bay to see the huge beasts up close (whale watch Dec/June 805-775-1222). In the wintertime the cute baby sea otters and elephant seals are born and watching the elephant seals from the Piedras Blancas elephant seal colony viewing area is a favorite Hearst Castle® country visitor winter activity. Even in the dead of winter it is so temperate on the coast that there are still some flowers in bloom to delight visitors and help feed some of the local wildlife like the humming birds and monarch butterflies which can be seen as late as February.
Tourist business this time of year slow, the prices are low and crowds are scarce; Ragged Point and the Big Sur Pacific Coast are so beautiful, quiet and serene right now. Because this is the off-season now it may be possible to get incredible bargains at any of the Central California Coast tourist motels by showing up at the reservations desk (the later in the day or evening the better) and bargaining for the lowest rates but if you don't have reservations you may not get the best of the ocean view rooms and on weekends it's probably best to have reservations. All the motels in the area have seasonal low rates now but the Ragged Point Inn is going a step further and sweetening the deal by including breakfast and dinner for two with the low seasonal price and calling it the Winter Special.
Along the way you can stop for a little sightseeing in the old village of San Simeon; visit the beach, have lunch and do some Hearst Ranch Wine tasting at the new wine tasting bar at Sebastian’s General Store and Café; they also serve Hearst Ranch natural free range beef and are getting a reputation for deliciously prepared food enjoyed by both tourists and locals alike. Come and do some exploring and have some adventures along with getting pampered at the Ragged Point Inn and Resort!
The Ragged Point Inn and Resort is truly a wonderful almost magical place but if you are interested in comparing it to other resorts, motels, or hotels near Hearst Castle® San Simeon
Hearst Castle® Hotels Lodging Directory has just been improved and updated.
If you are headed to the north up the Scenic Big Sur Pacific Coast Highway 1 you can find places to stay near Big Sur California at the

The Magic of
Ragged Point Inn
|
|
 |
On the Scenic Pacific Coast Highway 1, between Big Sur and San Simeon, halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco, lies Ragged Point that is part of the huge San Simeon Hearst Ranch property which also includes San Simeon's world famous Hearst Castle®. Just north of Ragged Point is the Ragged Point Inn and Resort; the property was first purchased from Hearst by a carnival owner by the name of Monte Young and then,in 1961, by Wiley and Mildred Ramey. At that small snack shop sporting a neon sign glaring the word "EAT," and ocean views of the California rugged Big Sur Coast.
In 1961 the Ragged Point Inn, the restaurant, the gift shop, and everything else that is now the Ragged Point Inn and Resort was only a dream.
The development of this special place 15 miles north of San Simeon Hearst Castle® on the Pacific Coast Highway 1 has been a labor of love for the Ramey family who have attempted to create an environment that provides the same magic to their guests as they have enjoyed over the last three decades
